DESCRIPTION : (by H.B.K. in publication)

Perennis. Rhizoma simplex +/- 10 mm longum radicibus adventitiis filiformibus numerosis stoloniferum. Folia 5 - 10 radicalia rosulata integerrima ovato-oblonga rotundato-obtusa basin versus abrupte angustata margine involuta superne glandulis sessilibus dense et glandulis stipitatis modice dense obsita basi utrimque nervi mediani pilis longis subulatis vestita (10) 18 - 26 (35) mm longa (7) 10 - 12 (20) mm lata pallide-virentia. . Hibernaculla nulla. Pedicelli 1 - 4 erecti teretes glandulis stipitatis disperse obsiti (15) 25 - 75 (100) mm alti uniflori. Flores parvi 10 - 15 mm longi (calcari incluso). Calyx bilabiatus extus glandulis stipitatis modice dense obsitus; labium superum usque ad dimidium trilobum lobis ovatis vel subtriangulis; labium inferum obtuse emarginatum vel usque ad 1/3 longitudinis bilobum ovatum 1.5 - 4 mm longum. Corolla bilabiata violacea purpurea pallide-violacea basi caerulea extus glandulis stipitatis disperse obsita; labium superum bilobum lobis obovato-oblongis longioribus quam latis vel raro aeque longis ac latis 2 - 3 mm longis 1 - 1.5 mm latis perspicue emarginatis; labium inferum paulo longius trilobum lobis obovato-oblongis longioribus quam latis 3 - 4.5 mm longis 1.5 - 2 mm latis perspicue emarginatis basi pilis cylindricis singularibus obsitis. Tubus subcylindricus obliquus caeruleus vel albescens intus pilosus parte infero pilis in triabus lineis cylindricis vel subclavatis retro conversis cum palato. Palatum conicum vel vestigium equi simile subemarginatum pilis brevibus cylindricis vel clavatis obsitum. Calcar conicum obtusum caeruleum vel albidum venis caeruleis vel luteo-viride (1) 2 - 3 (3.5) mm longum incurvatum. Stamina 1.5 mm longa; pollen 5 - 6 (7) - colporatum. Ovarium subglobosum glandulis stipitatis disperse obsitum. Stigma bilabiatum labio infero orbiculato. Capsula ovoida +/- 3 mm longa +/- 2 mm lata calycem excedens. Semina scobiformia numerosa ellipsoidea alveolata.

Localisation / Map: 

 

From Columbia and Ecuador. Not listed as occurring in Peru by Casper (1966: 114). Listed by Taylor (Taylor, P., 1975. Fl. Ecuador, p. 10) as known from Peru but no specimens seen at Kew.
